Boys Literacy Project

The Racecourse Community Foundation in conjunction with the Football Conference are currently running a project to improve Year 5 and 6 boys literacy in twelve schools across the Wrexham area .

The Launch Event saw the twelve schools visit The Racecourse for a ground tour, coaching session and a workshop with childrens author Tom Palmer .

He has written five modules for each school and our coaches will be supporting the schools over the next few months by helping out with modules and free coaching sessions.

As part of the modules each school will be accessing the Wrexham Library for a book hunt with the teachers and Foundation coaches.

The project will close with a Finale Event on the 1st December with players and manager from Wrexham FC alongside a guest celebrity.

Princes Trust (Get Started with Football)

The Racecourse Community Foundation in conjunction with the Princes Trust is running a week long course for young people between the ages of of 16 and 25.

Entitled Get Started with Football.The aim of the course is to give an introduction to what it’s like to be a football coach working within the Clubs Community Programme.

To improve team building, communication skills and confidence.The young people will have completed a Football Association of Wales Football Leaders Course and Emergency Aid course .

For their final challenge they will take part in a match at a first team fixture in front of 5000 supporters

There will be another two courses running in December 2011 and April 2012.

Futsal and Coach Mentoring Programme

The Sports Council for Wales has funded a programme to improve participation in four venues across Wrexham.

The venues are Bryn Alyn,Ysgol Ruabon,Darland and Clywedog and are free to children in years 3-6.The course is ten weeks and alongside this there are three qualifications that can be gained for aspiring coaches.

The FAW Leaders Award, First Aid and Child Welfare are the courses at a cost of £100 for the three courses.

Alternatively you can access these courses in return for ten hours of voluntary coaching.

The hours can then be used at the Futsal courses or at our after school clubs.
