RCF & FAW Girls Football Development Project

In May 2018, The RCF and the Football Association of Wales joined forces to develop and deliver a project to grow girls football within Wrexham. The aim of the project is quite simply for The RCF to support local junior league football clubs develop their own girls section. The project will initially see The RCF partner with 3 junior league clubs in the delivery of girls football. The RCF will deliver free girls only school sessions to primary schools that are local to each club, the RCF will then develop promotional material and, in partnership with the Junior League Club, deliver 10 turn up and play girls only football sessions. These ten sessions will allow coaches from The RCF to mentor and support the Junior League clubs coaches to ensure there is sustainability upon completion of the 10 sessions. The RCF will then be on hand to consult and offer support once the 10 weeks is completed. The Junior League clubs will then continue the sessions and form their very own girls teams at the under 12 or under 10 age group.

The three clubs that will initially be supported are; Brymbo Lodge FC, Pen-Y-Cae FC and Coedpoeth FC. BDM at The RCF,  Gemma Owen commented “This is a fantastic project and superb way for us as an organisation and as a club to help support and develop girls football within Wrexham. It is an area that we have really grown over the last two years and this is the next step in our strategy to get more girls playing football. I will be heading this project up and I already know its seeing some great success. I’d like to thank Mike Parry at the FAW for his support and drive to get this project up and running”.
