Racecourse Community Foundation Re-Opens Education Suite
The Excell Supply Education Suite is the base for the RCF, the charity arm of Wrexham Football Club, which aims to use the power of football to bring about positive change to people within the local community. The Suite is used for primary and secondary school visits to the stadium, which forms part of the RCF’s effort to encourage more pupils to get involved in football and exercise. With 5 full and part time members off staff and number of sessional coaches, the refurbished office offered a brilliant location for the staff to continue their excellent work, whilst also offering a purpose built classroom to enhance the learning of local primary and secondary school pupils. Literacy and numeracy enhancement have long been a strategy for the RCF and this classroom offered a fantastic opportunity to continue this work.
Work on the Suite began in late October 2017, and in just three weeks the space has been transformed. The refurbishment has been managed and carried out by Lendlease Construction, the company responsible for building HMP Berwyn in Wrexham and the construction arm of leading property and infrastructure company, Lendlease.  Lendlease is a leading international property and infrastructure group. In the UK, it is the only fully integrated retail, residential and commercial provider delivering end-to-end property solutions. The company has core capabilities in development, investment management, construction, asset and property management. Lendlease is behind some of London’s largest and most exciting mixed-use regeneration projects such as Elephant Park and The International Quarter. Listed on the Australian Securities Exchange Lendlease operates in four key regions – Australia, Asia, Americas and Europe. The group has more than 12,000 employees worldwide. Lendlease was recognised as the UK’s Most Sustainable Residential Developer by the NextGeneration Sustainability Benchmark for setting new standards of sustainability and customer engagement in 2016, scoring more than double the industry average.
Joint Business Development Manager at the RCF, Gemma Owen, commented: “Our classroom had started to look dated and quite tired, so we were delighted when Lendlease approached us about carrying out a refurbishment of the Suite. The work has been carried out to a superb standard and has fully modernised the classroom. We are now able to once again proudly host local schools and groups and show them the transformative power of football.”
Lendlease Project Director, Paul Bacon, said: “We’ve long admired the work of the RCF, so we were very pleased when the opportunity came up to collaborate on a project. We hope the refreshed Suite will be used and enjoyed by schools for many years to come. David Ianson from Lendlease pulled the works together for this refurbishment and is currently on the Lendlease graduate scheme. It has been very rewarding to see what David has achieved with this project, overcoming many issues and all by himself, he is a credit to our graduate scheme’’
David Ianson, who was the Project Manager, said: “This has been an extremely rewarding experience for myself and the team and a brilliant learning curve personally for me. I am very pleased with the work that has been carried out but what is most satisfying is the impact that it will have on both the staff and the local community of Wrexham”.
Jon Evrall, managing director Excell Supply Education, which sponsors the Suite, added: “It really is an honour and a privileged to be involved in this kind of project, especially being local to Wrexham myself I can really see how this fully function classroom and office will benefit so many people. The team has done a great job of transforming the space.”
