Since the start of the New Year we have been running a girls centre of development at Glyndwr University.
This has been a very successful pilot and we have had 30 girls registered for the past ten weeks .
This originally started as a taster session at Colliers Park where over 58 girls attended and due to its success we will now be running this Centre in line with our current boys development centre starting in August 2015.
This will then be a 28 week development programme and will create a pathway for the girls from school football to Junior League football
In the coming months we will be looking to increase our girls participation in North Wales with funding from the Welsh Football Trust.
This funding will give more opportunities for girls to play football and create a pathway for them from school football to Junior League teams . This project will be started around September and will see the RCF visiting schools and providing free taster sessions within.
Fun Football is back with sessions taking place every Monday at Colliers Park, Gresford.
The sessions take place between 4-5pm on the 3G pitch, so no studs are required and the best thing is that you can just turn up and play.
There’s no need to book and each session costs just £2.
We are also running Fun Futsal sessions too, every Thursday at the Splash Magic Leisure Centre Sports Hall, at Plas Madoc.
These sessions also take place between 4-5pm and everyone is welcome, just pay your £2 per session to join in.
Girls football is on the up
200 girls aged between 6-11 yrs from local primary schools attended the FIFA Live your Goals festival held at Glyndwr University Sports Centre in partnership with the Welsh Football Trust.
The Live Your Goals campaign targets and inspires women and girls to play football and stay in the game. The campaign was launched at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup and has evolved into one of FIFA’s most recognised women’s football initiatives.
The first, and most important, objective of Live Your Goals is to encourage women and girls to participate in football.
We have held a number of girls football taster sessions in Wrexham Primary Schools since the beginning of September, as part of a project that will continue on until March 2016, and all schools were invited.
The Festival saw girls taking part in various football activities as well as dance, hoola hooping and freestyling!
We had fantastic hoola hoop instructor Sasha from Hoolanation come in and teach the girls to hoola hoop which was amazing as only a few weeks before Sasha had
broken a world hoola hooping record and is now a multi world record holder.
Professional football freestyler Ash Randall also came along to give the girls the chance to try freestyling.
We will be holding another festival in the New Year for schools who will be having their taster sessions very soon so we have another fantastic festival to look forward to!
As part of this project we are now running Girls Only fun football sessions at different locations around Wrexham. All girls are invited along to these sessions that run weekly at Colliers Park, Gresford on Mondays 4-5pm and at Splash Magic Leisure Centre at Plas Madoc on Thursdays 4-5pm.
Both of these sessions are £2 each.
In addition to this, we have a Girls Development Centre at Glyndwr Sports Centre on Tuesday evenings 5-6pm which are more technical based sessions aimed to develop the girls technical skills.
For more information on any of the girls only sessions we run, please contact me on 01978 294414 or email@example.com . We welcome any girls who would like to try football at any of our sessions.
Thank you very much for your continued support.
