As part of a Welsh Football Trust funded project, the Racecourse Community Foundation have delivered football taster sessions to girls in Wrexham schools over the last 6 months with the ambition to increase girls participation in the area.

In conjunction with this, two FIFA Live Your Goals festivals were organised and held in October 2015 and March 2016 at Glyndwr University and Wrexham Football Club.

Over 500 girls attended the festivals and took part in various activities which involved small sided games, penalty shoot outs using the RCF inflatable, a tour of Wrexham FCs Racecourse Stadium and a kit design workshop.

Also in attendance to provide workshops were Ash Randall, a professional football freestyler who gave the girls a little taster in how to perform various tricks with the ball and Sasha Kenney from Hoola Nation who taught the girls how to hoola hoop as well as providing the very entertaining warm up.

The festivals were a huge success and lots of fun was had by not only the children but also the teaching staff and the coaching staff!

This program has seen us have a positive influence on so many participants, and not just in terms of football ability. The girls can come and socialise with each other, talk, play and work as a team with people they may never have met before. With the staff delivering the project, it has also provided positive role models for the girls.

Three new girls sessions have also started in Wrexham to enable girls to play in an environment where they can meet new friends as well as learn new skills whilst most importantly having fun.

The details of these sessions are as follows;

Tuesdays – Girls Development Centre – Glyndwr University Sports Centre – 5-6pm

Thursdays – Fun session – Splash Magic Leisure Centre, Plas Madoc – 4-5pm

Fridays – Fun session – Glyndwr University Sports Centre, Wrexham – 4-5pm
